FAQs

In Espai Alsesa we advise you to make your project a success, and you can incorporate the ideal fireplace. We want to make your way easier, and therefore, here you will find the answers to the most frequent questions about the installation of a fireplace. However, you can always consult us directly through the contact form , by phone, or in person at our facilities . We will be happy to help you.

1 Where should I locate the pipe outlet?
The smoke outlet must be straight, there cannot be any 90º elbow, but if it is not possible, a maximum of two 45º elbows (preferably only one) can be placed, although there must be a maximum separation between elbow and elbow 50 cm.

2 How high should the flue pipe be?
The pipe that goes outside must protrude 1 meter from the highest part of the roof.

3 Do I need an air inlet to install a fireplace?
For a good combustion, we must take into account that we will need a sufficient supply of air, and if the room where we want to place our chimney is not too large, we will have to provide an outside air inlet that favors proper combustion.

4 What free space should be around the smoke outlet?
A minimum distance of 8 m must be respected from the smoke outlet to any outside element that is around (other buildings, trees, antennas, …).

5 What material should be the flue outlet duct?
The ideal material is stainless steel, since it is the most resistant and the one that best maintains its properties for this function.

6 What should the flue pipe be like?
It is preferable that the flue outlet duct be round. In this way the smoke dynamics itself is used, as well as facilitating cleaning.

7 Which section should I pipe?
The entire section must be tubed, from the chimney outlet, to the outside exit, and it must be all in the same diameter, which will be determined by the chimney.

8 Can I take advantage of an existing conduit?
The smoke outlet duct must be used exclusively for this function. Existing ducts should not be used if they have other uses.

9 What is the minimum length of the smoke exit path?
It will never be less than 4 meters, since otherwise we could have problems with their evacuation.

10 What type of cap should I install?
The most recommended is the anti-revocation or anti-wind, since it prevents the wind from damaging the smoke output.

11 Should any type of insulator be used?
Yes, fireproof insulation must always be used. We will cover: the back of the chimney, the hood, the lining and any combustible zone that is inside the security area (depending on the model). If there are condensation problems, it is also recommended to isolate the smoke outlet. In any case, always consult your installer. In Espai Alsesa we have highly qualified staff to answer your questions.

12 What maintenance should a fireplace have?
We recommend, before the first use, if the coating is porous, use a cap-pore product. In this way we will prevent it from getting dirty with use. It would have to be reapplied before starting each season.

During daily use:
• For the glass, use a specific product that protects the glass-ceramic glass, and also removes dirt easily.
• It is recommended to use a specific product to avoid remaining debris in the flue outlet duct. It is best to use a product called ‘chimney sweep’ with each ignition.

Start of season – Before starting each season it is recommended to clean the smoke duct. There are different methods:
• The usual way is to use the traditional system, which involves running a rope with a weight on one end, covered with a bag, through the entire section.
• In the event that it is not possible to proceed according to option 1 in all seasons, the chimney product should be served, but from time to time more thorough cleaning should be done.
